Worker's Compensation The term that best describes Lynn Bradley is “hard worker”. Since the age of fifteen, she has held between one to three jobs at a time to finance her dream of becoming a lawyer. Growing up in a blue collar area of Pennsylvania, Lynn has used the strong work ethic that she learned from her family and community to build a thriving, successful law practice. Even while attending the University of Richmond School of Law, Lynn knew she wanted to help injured workers. Since she was a second year law student, Lynn has directed her education and career in this direction.

Workers’ Compensation is a specialized area of the law with its own administrative agency, the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. It has its own set of case law and procedural rules. Because law schools do not typically include workers’ compensation in their curriculum, Lynn supplemented her law school experience with employment at the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. Beginning in the summer of 1992, through the spring of 1994, Lynn worked at the Commission in various positions. She was a law clerk to former Commissioner Joyner and a publication assistant who summarized and compiled Commission decision for annotation in the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act.

Since graduating from law school, Lynn has represented injured workers, litigating their claims at the Deputy Commissioner level and handling appeals at the Full Commission and the Court of Appeals. Lynn began law practice in Pulaski, Virginia. In January 1996, she moved to Central Virginia and began work at Tucker Griffin Barnes. Because she has concentrated her practice to workers’ compensation, she has amassed large amounts of trial experience before the Commission and knowledge of how to effectively navigate an often confusing system. Her dedication and proven success for injured workers has made her a lawyer who other attorneys in Central Virginia and the Valley refer their workers’ compensation inquiries to.

Lynn describes her motivation best:

“I truly believe workers are the back bone of America. Unfortunately, the jobs that carry the most risk of injury, like heavy labor, pay the least and provide minimal, if any, health insurance coverage. When a worker is injured, he or she needs immediate action. It can take weeks for the insurance company to investigate the claim and, if denied, months to receive a decision from the Commission. Most employers are either unaware of workers’ compensation procedures and can not advise the worker, or are worried about how this injury will affect their ‘bottom line’ and become hostile to the injured worker. Meanwhile, the injured worker is often left without access to health care and without a much needed paycheck. On top of that, the bill collectors keep calling and the stress of how to keep the family afloat mounts. I am proud that I am able to help these dedicated hard-working individuals through an often lengthy and confusing system. I strive to alleviate the stress and obtain maximum benefit as quickly as possible. I become their advocate and use my legal and practical skills to get them all that they are entitled to.”

Lynn is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association (worker’s compensation section) and the Charlottesville-Albemarle Bar Association. She lives in Charlottesville with her husband Richard and their daughter, Katie.
